Husband of Helene Oetken, 1843-1925. Johann Friedrich Otken immigrated to Texas with his parents and five siblings. They departed from Bremen in October 1847 aboard the ship Helen and Elise and arrived in Galveston in December. 1850 census records place the family in Colorado County, engaged in farming. The family later moved to Fayette County. The original spelling of Otken was modified to Oetken.
