JOHANNES SCHAFER
Johannes E. Schafer, 68, of Anamosa died the evening of Aug. 23, 1987,at Ottumwa Regional Health Care Hospital following a brief illness.
Johannes "Joe" E. Schafer was born May 19, 1919 Jones County; son of Herman J and Augusta Ortgies Schafer. He received his education in Jones County schools and worked as a carpenter in the Des Moines area for many years, retiring in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII for two terms.
He is survived by a daughter, Elaine Siebels, and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Schafer were held at 1:30 p.m. Aug 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, with the Rev. David Hagstrom officiating. Burial was in Prairie Hill Cemetery, Castle Grove Township, rural Monticello, with Military Honors.
Casket bearers were Lawrence Ulferts, Elmer Hanken, Leonard Johnson, Lawrence Huerter, Alvin Ortgies and William English Jr.
