Florence Yost, 94, Gorham, died Friday, Dec., 20, 2013, at Main Street Manor in Russell. She was born Sept. 27, 1919, on the farm in Gorham to George and Katherine (Mermis) Jacobs.

She married Alois J. "Lum" Yost on Sept. 17, 1940, in Gorham. He preceded her in death March 15, 2002.

She attended St. Mary's Grade School in Gorham, the Belmont country school in rural Gorham, and was a 1937 graduate of Russell High School. During WWII, she worked at the Walker Air Base and Army bases in North Carolina, where her husband was stationed. Following the war, they made their home in Gorham, then moved near Fairport, where Florence raised their family. In 1959, they moved to a farm east of Gorham.

In 1964, the family moved to the home they purchased in Gorham. She cooked at Gorham schools for 18 years and retired in 1980, then worked part-time at the Gorham Post Office for five years. Florence lived at the family home in Gorham until 2007. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a 75-year member of St. Charles Circle of Daughters of Isabella, both of Gorham. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, both of Russell. She helped form the Big Creek 4-H Club in Gorham, and was active in church and community activities.

Survivors include three sons, Richard "Dick" Yost and wife, Joanne, Hays; Jack Yost and wife, Gina, Russell; Chuck Yost and wife, Terri, Gorham; a daughter, Marcia Blundon and husband, Glen, Russell; seven grandchildren, Jeff Yost, Greg Yost and wife, Candace, both of Hays, Brad Yost, Salina, Shawn Yost, Eric Yost, both of Gorham, Dustin Yost and wife, Marie, Platte City, Mo., Nicole Rohr and husband, Scott, Gardner; 10 great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Douglas Yost in 2001; four brothers, Albert, Fidelis, Leo and Linus Jacobs; five sisters, Albina Dreiling, Mary Isaacson, Blanche Herl, Georgina Jacobs and Martha Wellbrock.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gorham; burial in church cemetery. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a Gorham Daughters of Isabella rosary, both at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the moturary and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's cemetery fund and Masses.
