Sammy Sanchez, age 40, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center.

A rosary will be held 7:00 P.M., Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Lupe Medellin.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 27, 2013 at Holy Spirit Parish (Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church) with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Sammy was born on February 12, 1973 in Sweetwater, Texas to Joe Sanchez, Sr. and Odilia (Gomez) Sanchez. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He worked as a driller for Ringo Drilling of Abilene, Texas. Sammy was a gifted artist who loved to draw pictures. He also enjoyed cooking, music, gathering with family and friends, and raising roosters.

He is survived by his mother, Odilia Sanchez of Sweetwater, Texas; two daughters, Rylan Sanchez of Snyder, Texas, and Aubrianna Sanchez of Carlsbad, New Mexico; two sons, Rio Sanchez of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Zachary Torrez of Sweetwater, Texas; grandmother, Odilia Gomez of Sweetwater, Texas; aunts, Sylvia Deloera and husband Henry of Arlington, Texas, and Terry Garcia and husband Eugene of Sweetwater, Texas; uncles, Eddie Gomez of Sweetwater, Texas, and Rene Sanchez and wife Minnie of Sweetwater, Texas; several cousins including, Sammy Delorea and wife Kathee of Sweetwater, Texas, Robert Sanchez of Roscoe, TX, Rudy Sanchez and wife Jessica of Sweetwater, TX, Mark Sanchez and wife DeAnn of San Angelo, TX, Roxanne Torrez and husband Adrian of Sweetwater, TX, and Sandra Cantu and husband Bobby of Sweetwater, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Sanchez, Sr.; two brothers, Danny Sanchez and Joe Sanchez, Jr.; grandparents, Eliseo Gomez, Aniceto and Cecila Sanchez; and aunt, Ydalia Alcala.
