Ruth Virginia Ratcliffe, 93, of Rich Creek and formerly of Pembroke, departed this life Friday evening, December 27, 2013 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Glen Lyn on May 2, 1920 she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Nettie Ann Mullins Reed. Ruth was a 1941 graduate of Glen Lyn High School; was employed at the Celanese Plant at Narrows for over 43 years; and lived out her Christian testimony in the good she did every day. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Guy "Jack" Ratcliffe; her brothers Ira, John, Watha, Hugh, James and Gene Reed; and her sisters Mary Booth and Helen Spangler.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sister and caregiver Vella R. Anderson of Rich Creek; her brothers Dean Reed of Rich Creek, Neal Reed of Statesboro, GA; a very helpful step-daughter Carol Ross of Pearisburg; and step-grandchildren whom she raised Jackie Jones and David Montgomery.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm before the services.
