Joseph Edward Schaps, of Ellicott City, Maryland, formerly of Boulder and Louisville, Colorado, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, in Columbia, Maryland. He was 82. The son of Clara (Fabeck) and Peter Schaps, he was born on March 10, 1923, in Lastrup, Minnesota. He married Rosemary Hughes on December 31, 1942, in Cook County, Illinois.

Joseph lived in Boulder, CO, from 1966 until 1972 and in Louisville from 1982 until 1998. He worked as a computer technician at IBM and Storage Technology Corp. He also was a watch repairman and founder of Schapel Jewelry. Joseph belonged to the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary.

Survivors include: two sons, John Schaps, of Estes Park, and Stephen Schaps, of Loveland; a daughter, Teri Deane, of Ellicott City; two sisters, Elizabeth Gallagher, of St. Paul, MN; and Mary Ann Buckley, of Denver; and eight grandchildren.
