Schaps, Nicholas V. Sr., age 70, of Green Valley, AZ, longtime resident of St. Paul, on 12/27 after a short battle with lung cancer. Preceded in death by his dear son Nick Jr. Survived by beloved wife of 50 years, Marion J. (nee Mueller); daughter Georgene Sorenson and husband Ronald of Grant Township; son Robert and friend Jenny McCormick of Litchfield; son Peter and wife Diane of Circle Pines; son James and wife Liz of Lino Lakes; and son Tony of St. Paul. Grandfather of Susan Schudt and husband Joe of South Bend, IN, Miranda, David, Tamara, Kristina, Jessica, Carly, Phillip, Mitchell, and Nicky. Great-grandfather of Joey Schudt, born 11/28/95. Also survived by brothers Ralph of Texas and Joseph of Colorado, and sisters Elizabeth Gallagher of Burnsville and Maryann Buckley of Colorado. Funeral leaving the HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM NORTH CHAPEL, 515 Hwy 96, Shoreview, Saturday Dec. 30, 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am, CHURCH OF ST. ODILIA, Shoreview. Visitation Friday, 4-8 pm, and Saturday, 9 am. Nick was a World War II veteran and bombardier in the 781st Bomb Squadron, 15th Air Force, Pantenella Base, south of Cherignola, Italy. Retired Regional Vice-President of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. Past President, Twin City Bond Club, Twin City Traders Assn., and Minnesota Municipal Advisory Council. A longtime member of North Oaks Golf Club, he loved the game. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the Nick Schaps Jr. Environmental Law Scholarship Fund at William Mitchell College of Law, Jesuit Retreat House, and St. Joseph's Hospice.
