South Deerfield - Donald R Herzig, 65, of Conway St., an employee of Lashway Lumber of Williamsburg and a former self-employed logger, died Wednesday after being stricken ill while logging in Williamsburg. Born in Colrain, he attended schools there and was graduated from the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls. He leaves his wife the former Mary Guyette Sears; two step-sons Robert W Guilford of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Richard E Guilford of Greenfield; two step-daughters Winifred Guilford of South Deerfield and Ruth E McNew of Greenfield; two brothers Edward Herzig of Orlando, Fla. and Norman Herzig of Colrain; seven sisters Margaret Smith of Greenfield, Arlene Grechel of Colrain, Elsie Brown and Christine Kingsbury, both of Shelburne Falls, Rosemary Burdick of Tampa, Fla., Barbara Ovitt of Shelburne Falls, and Jane Ovitt of Bernardston; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a brother Herman died in 1958. The funeral will be tomorrow morning at Wrisley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Branch Cemetery, Colrain.
