Geraldine Olive Rhoda, 84, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Avalon Springs. She was born January 10, 1930 in Salt Lick, KY to Johnnie Eber and Ada Spencer (Conn) Hunt. Gerry was a life-long upholsterer and the owner of Gerry's Upholstery, and she served as a Matron at the Porter County Sheriff's Department. She was a member of First Christian Church, VFW Post 988 and American Legion Post 94. She enjoyed crafts, bingo and bowling. Gerry loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as "Granny." Whenever they went to visit they always came home with a special treat.
On February 19, 1945 at First Christian Church in Valparaiso, she married Kenneth Carl Rhoda, who preceded her in death December 10, 1991. Survivors include two sons: Danny Dale (JoAnn) Rhoda of Leesburg, FL and Johnny Carl (Irene) Rhoda of Kouts; two grandchildren: Jamie (Derek) Riley and Jonathon (Kara) Rhoda; three great-grandchildren: Caleb, Jesse and Kyle; nine siblings: Lawrence C. Hunt, Martha J. Crump, Fairley S. (Gail) Hunt, Brenda S. Horsley, Wanda R Bragg, Elmer (Barbara) Hunt all of Salt Lick, KY, Doris J. Romine of Pine River, MN, Donnie F. (Vayle) Hunt of Westville, IN, and Rhonda G. (Jim) Knox of Monrovia, IN; and 100 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings: Gladys R. Hunt, Margaret C. Wills, Stella G. Egolf, Lester J. Hunt, and John Edward Hunt; and six nieces and nephews.
Burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
