Julie M. Layeux, 63, of Rockford, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 in her home surrounded by her immediate family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Julie was born May 8, 1945 in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Isi and Rita (Colling) Harpenau.

Julie graduated from St. Mary High School in 1963 and married Robert Layeux on July 31, 1971 at Assumption Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Julie worked at Alpine Bank for 18 years as a personal banker.

She was an active member of the St. Rita and Boylan High School Catholic communities.

Julie enjoyed everything from her flowers, golfing, mystery books, and special trips to Elgin, but nothing was more important than making sure her family was loved and provided for.

Julie is survived by her husband, Robert Layeux of Rockford; her daughters, Kerry (Tony) Beaulieu and Katie (Shaun) Bouback; her son, Paul (Anita) Layeux; her father, Isi Harpenau; her grandchildren, Owen Beaulieu, and Austin Bouback; her sisters, Donna (Lynn) Neubel, Sara (Denny) Grallap, Sue (Randy) McCall, Nancy (Lee) Peterson, Colleen (Jack) Meyer, and Grace (Jim) Rutan; her brothers, Ken (Jane) Harpenau, Joe (Marsha) Harpenau, Steve (Linda) Harpenau, and Ned (Jane) Harpenau.

Julie was predeceased by her mother, Rita and her brother Mark.
