Lester "Whitey" Salzsieder died on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the age of 90. He was born April 12, 1921, in Montpelier, WI, to the late Albert and Louisa (Gruetzmacher) Salzsieder. He was the sixth of twelve children. On Aug. 21, 1948, he married Nathalie at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt, Wis. He was a patient and wonderful person to know and was devoted to his faith and family. In his early years he and his wife had many Happy Hoppers dance dates, plus outdoor ice skating or roller skating, playing cards, movies, theatrical plays, senior bus trips, especially casino trips. In his youth he learned mechanical skills at his cousin's garage and carried those skills all of his life. He became self-employed with his "namesake garage" and rental properties. He was a very handy person in all phases of work. Lester was fully employed by the Larsen Company on South Broadway for 33 years and became a mechanic supervisor in many areas, and was liked by all. He also was a licensed cheesemaker and worked for Ohlrogge on Highway 29 and helped other factory owners. Survivors include his wife and children; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and four godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; many brothers and sisters, Clarence, Ornie, Alfred, Edgar and Elroy Salzsieder, Elda Bauman, Cora Mueller, an infant sister; his sisters-in-law, Rita Salzsieder, Maxine Prevost; his brothers-in-law, Art Kuchenbecker, Joseph Swille, Clayton Tilkens, Marvin Tilkens; and a godchild. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald Everts officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
