Evelyn Dvorak was born in the rural Creighton, Nebraska area November 20, 1915. Evelyn was the second oldest of 6 children, four sisters and one brother. Evelyn's parents were Charles E. and Anna S. (Cotton) Broeker. Evelyn passed away March 22, 2014.

Charles was of English royalty but as a very young man decided to venture to America and gradually ended up in the Bloomfield/Creighton, Nebraska area. Evelyn's mother Anna died in child birth when Evelyn was twelve years old.
This left Evelyn as care taker of the other children, doing the house work, and cooking for the family. While doing this she walked six miles each way to School. This was the beginning of the "Dirty Thirties" and times were very hard. Because of this Evelyn always appreciated fresh fruit, enjoyed a good rare steak, and was very conservative. Food was scarce in this time period and she went to bed hungry on occasions. It was custom in those days to hang a beef in a building during the cold of the winter, cutting off pieces as you needed it. Evelyn used to tell how she would sneak out and shave off pieces to eat. Evelyn graduated from
high school in Creighton, Nebraska. She had he first teaching job southwest of Atkinson, Nebraska by the Boettcher Ranch. Again she walked back and forth from school, boarding with the Boettcher's. When World War II started Evelyn moved to California and worked as an electrician in the ship yards. After the war she moved back to Atkinson, Nebraska and worked on the Dvorak Bros. Ranch cooking for the large branding, haying and threshing crews and doing house and gardening chores. On October 7, 1961 she married John R. "Johnny" Dvorak. They both loved dancing and
dressing up. Many people have commented what a classy couple they made. Sadly this marriage ended in four years when Johnny had a fatal heart attack. Evelyn stayed on the ranch to the present time, still doing some of the book work, maintaining her house, yard, small garden, and making sure the bird and squirrel feeders were always full. Always alert and observing the activities around the ranch she made sure to let Dan, Tannon or Gordon know what was wrong and how they needed to fix it. It was always amazing how fast she spotted anything that changed around the place. Her car was her pride and joy and for years she washed it once a week whether it was used or not. Until the last couple of years no one could drive it except her. Her two cats were her family and kept her occupied all of the time. When she needed cat food Bev always had strict orders for a certain brand only. She also demanded Shannon order certain music tapes for her on the internet. She especially appreciated Zona's home cooked meals! We could go on and on, but this is a brief story of her life. We were fortunate to share it with her. Evelyn had many nieces and nephews on the west
coast and always enjoyed their visits, phone calls, and cards and gifts. Jim or Mary Ann were able to visit every year which was always enjoyable for Evelyn.

Evelyn was preceded in death by: parents, husband, John R. "Johnny' Dvorak; 4 sisters and 1 brother.
