Robert S. Heck died at the age of 43 years from a hemorrhage due to a ruptured anurism in the stomach. Post cards from his wife to Lizzie Heck Plucker written nine years prior to his death told of problems with a pain in his left side which confined him to bed. He didn't want to see a doctor and that may have cost him his life. He had worked at several saloons and at the Horseshoe Rubber and Tire Company. One story has it that he operated a still in his attic and sold the products to local taverns in pint Mason jars.
