McVEYTOWN - Kathryn "Katie" (Eckhard) Dickson Baker, 84, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014.She was born Oct. 5, 1929, to the late William J. and Velma (Williams) Eckhard.Raised in Altoona, Katie then lived in the McVeytown area since the early 1950's. She had been a resident of Meadowview Manor in McVeytown since August 2010.Her husband, Gregory A. Baker, died March 9, 2000. They were married in August 1972.Surviving are: a son, Kenneth Dickson and wife, Doris, of McVeytown; a daughter-in-law, Linda Dickson, of McVeytown; a sister, Barbara J. Plunket, of Carrolltown, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Autumn, Julie, Brad, Shawn, Adam and Wade; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand- daughter; and many nieces and nephews that she enjoyed spending time with.She was preceded in death by: a son, Richard Dickson, in 2011; and two brothers, Richard Eckhard, in 2000, and William Eckhard, in 1926.An avid fan of dirt track late model racing, she cheered for her son, Ken, and later for her grandson, Nick. She also enjoyed watching grandchildrens' baseball games and her granddaughters in cheerleading.Katie graduated from Altoona High School and was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren in McVeytown, where she especially enjoyed singing in the choir.In addition to being a homemaker, Katie had been employed at Fisher's Electronics in Gardenview, and retired in 1992 from housekeeping at Lewistown Hospital.A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with Pastor Kate Gandy officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to Meadowview Manor, 2103 U.S. Highway 522 South, McVeytown, PA 17051.Harshbarger Funeral Home, McVeytown, is in charge of arrangements.
