City's Oldest Resident Dies at Age of 93

Nikolaus Nicolaus, believed to be Monessen's oldest resident, died yesterday afternoon at the age of 93 at his home, 906 Rostraver St.

Born in Bavaria, Germany, Oct.1,1854, Nicolaus came to the United States in 1892 aboard the ship Westerland and landed at Ellis Island on Nov. 30. He and his wife Gertrude and their seven children were on board. They have lived in Monessen since 1903. He moved here from West Newton.

A blacksmith by trade, Nicolaus worked for the Pittsburgh Steel Co. here until his retirement at the age of 72. Since the death of his wife about 20 years ago, he has made his home with a bachelor son, Albert.

Surviving are the following children: Joseph, Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Anna Kibbey, Muskegan, Mich.; Mrs. Gertrude Damaska, Williamsport; Mrs. Elizabeth Stubbel, Ellwood City; Jacob, Monessen; Mrs. Mathilda Schelhas, Muskegan, Mich.; August, Monessen; Albert, at home; Reinholdt, Cortland, Ohio; Julius, Andover, Ohio; Mrs. Cecelia Remaley, Monessen.

There are also Forty-three grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren who also survive.

Friends are being received at the residence.
