Jacob Doerman,75, 178 West Third St., shoe merchant of Mansfield for nearly half a century died at General Hospital Thursday morning after an illness of several months.
For 48 years Mr. Doerman had been engaged in the retail shoe business in Mansfield. The greater number of those years he operated a shoe store at the corner of Park Ave & South Main Street on the spot now occupied by the Merchants Bank. He retired from active business seven years ago, when the buildings were torn down to make way for the new in 1926.
Mr. Doerman was born in Germany Sept. 17, 1857 and had been a Mansfield resident 55 years.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church; Mansfield Lodge No 35 F.& A.M.; Richland Lodge 161 I.O.O.F; Mohican Encampment 13; and Canton Mansfield 6. He was a member of the German Pioneer Society.
Surviving are his widow, Sarah; three sons, Henry of Roseville, Cal., Joseph of Bellville, and Carl at home; two daughters, Mrs. Simon Hinish of Fort Wayne, and Miss Mary Doerman at home; one brother, Carl in Germany, and five grandchildren.
