Anna was the second of three children born to Charles Gorse Keator and Rose Camilla Mayham Keator. She was raised at Roxbury where her father was first a farmer and later the owner of a creamery. She graduated from Dana Hall School at Wellesley, Massachusetts and then entered the nurse’s training course at New York Hospital in New York City. She later became the Superintendent of Women’s Hospital at New York City. In 1917, she joined the Red Cross and departed for service during World War I in Europe. Anna was relieved from active duty in 1919 and placed on Reserves status. Anna married to widower, Andrew Frederick Lutz on 27 October 1921 at Roxbury. They made their home at that place where her husband was a merchant. Anna and Andrew had no children but Andrew had a young daughter from his previous marriage that Anna assumed responsibility for mothering.
