He was born in New Bedford; son of the late Luke and Marion (Hewins) Leonard. He was a graduate of Middleboro Memorial High School, class of 1953. He had worked at Chace Chevrolet as a mechanic, and at the Apponequet Regional High School, in the vocational department for 22 years. He served in the United States Air Force Reserve. Luke was on the Lakeville Planning Board, the S.R.P.E.D.D., and the Herring Fishery Commission as a volunteer. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Judith; a daughter, Mary L. and her husband Randall J. Davis; a son, Jeffrey L. Leonard; step-children, Kevin Reagan and his wife Amy, Kelli Lauzon, Koleen Kipperman and her husband Todd; 13 grandchildren, a sister, Sara "Tissy" and her husband Dick Brooks; brothers, Peter Leonard and his wife Joanne, and the late Gerome and his wife Eva Leonard.
