Obit from The Jackson (TN) Sun.,
Mrs. Louise McCarter, 81, services were today at Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Ted Avant officiating. George A Smith and Sons' , Main Street Chapel was in charge.
Mrs, McCarter, widow of James McCarter, died Tuesday morning at Jackson- Madison County General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a Jackson native resident and worked for Chesterfield Market many years. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Surving are an aunt, Mrs. George W Barnes of Jackson, several nieces, nephews.
*The Obit has an error in it, as her Aunt Ollie Guy Barnes was the informant listed husband as Robert E McCarter vs James E McCarter. But, in talking with another Jackson TN relative Daisy Louise McGraff, she knew of Louise husband being James and he being a Military man.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Louise was born in Nashville Davidson County TN. Her mother was Daisy Guy. Her birth father was Lewis D Archey. Her brother was Norman. Daisy divorced Lewis. Lewis could not hold a job to provide for a wife, two children. His drinking addiction sadly lost him his wife, two children and lead to his death. Lewis signed the adoption paperwork for A D Barnes to adopt his children to relinquish child support payments or any payments to Daisy. He did not remarry. ** Louise took on the Barnes name.
In 1906, Daisy remarried to A D Barnes making Jackson Madison County TN their new home. A D Barnes adopted Louise and Norman. They took on the Barnes surname. They were well cared for and loved as his own children.
Louise married James Edwin McCarter in Madison County, TN on 16 April 1924. James was a military man, served in WW1. No known children to this union.
Louise and James traveled to various parts while working in Memphis, Chattanooga, Jackson and Texas per US Directory listing. Also, per Daisy Louise McGraff now deceased. Daisy indicated Louise needed work and found herself returning home to Jackson where her family member's surrounded her.
Her mother Daisy, is the sister to Ollie Tucker Guy( Mrs. George W Barnes) and sister to Clara Mai Guy Herron Bowers of Nashville, TN Daisy lost her sister, Annie, in 1921, another sister Louise in 1866 age 3. Daisy had a brother, John and brother, Archibald David Guy. It is possible that Daisy named her daughter after her baby sister, Louise Guy.
After the death of A D Barnes, Daisy remarried for the third time to Thomas Turner. He had lost his wife to death.
Louise worked as a bookkeeper with her employment with Chesterfield Market which was a well established business.
Louise is buried by her" dad" A D Barnes. There is a burial plot for Daisy but she is not there. But, beside her third husband Tom Turner.
Rest In Peace...Louise
