According to a family genealogy study commissioned by John Bentz Hamme and completed in 1958, the lone copy of which is on file at the York Heritage trust, York, PA., Jonas Hamme was the last born child of Balthaser and Catharine Hamme.

His birth date, as referenced in the records of the Gettysburg Theological Seminary, was May 19, 1799.

He was baptized on June 23, 1799, which may have also been his date of death. (In those days, infant deaths were not uncommon and it was an accepted practice to baptize the child upon its death, or just prior to an imminent death).

According to church records, Balthaser's brother, Christian (and Christian's wife, Anna Maria) witnessed the baptism.

No burial record was ever documented; however, it is likely that Jonas was buried on Balthaser's 199-acre estate at Hilton Station in Dover Township, York County, PA. That estate was also the resting place of Balthaser's parents.

Historical note: This Jonas Hamme is often confused by genealogists with Christian's son, Jonas Hamme, who was born two years earlier (May 15, 1797) and died at age 74 on April 29, 1872.
