Gilbert was the son of Frederick & Adelia (Suhr) Weitzenkamp.

After his birth, Gilbert's parents moved from Dodge county, NE (near Hooper) to Concord, NE and later to Wayne, NE. They settled on a farm west of Uehling in 1926.
Gilbert married Marie Wobken on 15 Apr 1936, on the Cuming & Dodge county line (Nebr.)
Gilbert & Marie farmed various places in Burt & Cuming counties, NE until buying their own farm one mile east of Lyons in 1944.
His survivors included: his wife, a daughter-in-law; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; a sister-in-law; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald, and two brothers.
Gilbert passed away at Logan Valley Manor.
