George J. Degenhardt, 74, Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Degenhardt was a self-employed insurance representative with the Pat Adams Agency. He also was an Army veteran and had been stationed in Germany.

He was born June 19, 1926, in Topeka, son of George J. and Katherine M. Bohn Degenhardt.

He attended Holy Name Elementary School and graduated from Capitol Catholic High School. Mr. Degenhardt was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Goodyear Post No. 2187 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

He married Barbara J. Desch on Oct. 1, 1955, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Daniel A. Degenhardt, Holton, and Marc J. Degenhardt, Marysville; two sisters, Virginia K. Elder, Topeka, and Wilma Jean Zinn, Haysville; and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Degenhardt will lie in state after 9 a.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where a prayer service at 6 p.m. will be followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
