Gertrude C. Stender, age 85 of Norwood Young America passed away Thursday June 5, 2014, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
Funeral Service Monday June 9, 2014 at 2:00 P.M., at Zion Lutheran Church, Benton Township, Cologne, with the Rev. Eric L. Zacharias officiating; Visitation Sunday 4-7 pm Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia and 1 hour prior to the service at the church; Chapel Service 6:30 P.M. Sunday evening; Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Gerturde was born May 12, 1929 in Helen Twp., McLeod County, MN the daughter of John and Martha (Oldenburg) Graupmann. Gertrude was baptized on June 16, 1929 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ by Rev. Otto Eyrich and confirmed on March 29, 1942 at St. Paul's E&R Church by Rev. O.J. Vriesen. On August 27, 1956 Gertrude was united in marriage to Julius Stender at United Church of Christ in Perham by Rev. Melvin Graupmann.
Gertrude enjoyed cross-stitching, reading and fishing. She managed Bongards Creamery retail store and worked as a teller at New Germany Bank. Gertrude would always gather everybody together for church services at Peace Villa.
Gertrude is preceded in death by; husband Julius Stender; sisters Mabel Wolter, Alice Shimota, Ruth Roehlke; brother John Graupmann.
Gertrude is survived by her loving family; children and spouses: Shelah and Bob Burandt of Waconia, Doug and Carol Stender of Fergus Falls, Lowell and Mary Stender of Young America, Tom Stender of Eden Prairie, Deborah and Ron Miller of Waconia, Lynn and Jim Vos of Green Isle, Kim Stender of Eden Prairie, David Stender of Green Isle, Mike and Lisa Stender of Buffalo, Julie and Edward McGillivray of Eden Prairie; grandchildren Shawn, Shannon, Wayne, Julius, Andrew, Jose, Becky, Angie, Laura, Amanda, Bryan, Neil, Reed, Alex, Shanti, Alejandra, Alison, Kayla and Drew; 27 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Bonnie Graupmann of Alabama; brother-in-law Bill Zellmann of Princeton; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
