Helen would say her greatest love in life was "music". She had a beautiful voice and played the piano. Throughout her life she was a member of several A Capella and Barbershop Choirs. She was still singing into her 90's with a senior group appropriately called the "Memory Tones". An avid painter in her later years, Helen had a keen eye and appreciation for natural landscapes. Helen was a very strong and self-assured individual, who always had solid advice for friends and family. She was proud of her German roots and was always very active and healthy her entire life.
Helen had four daughters, Sharon Cook Alley of Connecticut who preceded her in death in 2013, Judy Thompson of Prineville, JenNee Freeman of West Linn, and Metta Smith of Pleasant Hill, Oregon. She had 9 grandchildren,14 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren
