Jacob Dill, 34, farmer living one mile north of Greeley, CO, his son Brian, 7, and his brother-in-law, Harold Horst, 18, of Buckingham, CO, were killed instantly around 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 1949, when the car in which they were riding was struck by a southbound passenger train, the Union Pacific's Portland Rose, about a tenth of a mile east of the Dill home. State Highway Patrol said Dill, the driver, apparently waited for a northbound freight train, the Pierce local, to pass then drove onto the double tracks in front of the passenger train.--Greeley Tribune
