Alfred A. Schumann of Fredericksburg, Texas passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the age of 85 years.
Mr. Schumann was born on April 6, 1929 in Bexar County, Texas, the son of Alfred J. Schumann and Sophie Tschoepe Schumann. He married Mae Nell Dolgener on Dec. 22, 1952 in New Braunfels, Texas, and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army from Jan.
11, 1951 to Jan. 12, 1953, and worked in meat processing for several years, retail sales at Gibson's, and custodian and maintenance for the Fredericksburg Independent School District. He was a member of Greater Life Christian Center.
Mr. Schumann was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Fey; a sister-in-law, Elaine Schumann, and a brother-in-law, Kyran Fey.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Schumann is survived by one son, one daughter and spouses, Arlon and Denise Schumann and Mary Lynn and Ray Rusche, all of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Kimberly Schumann, Ashley Rusche and Tyson Rusche; three brothers, one sister and spouses: Joe Schumann of Seguin; David and Florence Schumann and Benny and Carol Schumann, all of New Braunfels; Carolyn and Roger Addington of Seguin; brother-in-law and spouse, Samuel A. and Judy Dolgener of Fredericksburg; sistersin-law, Jimmie Hitzfelder and her husband, Herman, of Art, Texas, and Mary Ellen Merkel of Mason, Texas.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m.,
in the Greater Life Christian Center in Fredericksburg, with Justin Dolgener and Gerald Wendel officiating.
Graveside services and interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Kyran Fey Jr., Barry Schumann, Justin J. Dolgener, Nathan W. Usener, James Dolgener and Jarrett Schumann.
Honorary pallbearers were Coach Randall King, Dr. David Hopf, Dr. Jose Lopez, Dr. Mark Deleon, Kim Sedgwick, Vernon Fluitt, Chrissy Molter, Ryan Andrews, Betty Morgan, Pastor Justin Dolgener and Asst. Pastor Gerald Wendel.
Visitation was held Friday evening at Schaetter Funeral Home, and Saturday morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in his memory be made to the Co-Pay Patient Advocate Foundation, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of their choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
