LAS VEGAS, Nev. | Dr. Bernard Scheiner, Sr., "Bernie", age 76, died July 31, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada from a blood clot to the heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Scheiner and Rita Skramstead; and one brother, Art Fumagalli.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Estelle Barker Scheiner, graduate of Rancho High; a son, Bernard Jr. (Glenda); a daughter, Charlotte; grandchildren, Taylor (Kyle) Carnley, Sydney Stripling, Emily Scheiner, Andrea Scheiner; and a brother, Stanley Scheiner.
Born in Atlantic City, N.J., March 12, 1938, Bernie and Estelle were married March 26, 1959. He is a 1958 graduate of Basic High and earned a BS and PhD in chemistry from the University of Nevada in 1961 and 1969 respectively. He remains the 26th all-time score list in basketball at UNLV. He served as an adjunct chemistry professor at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa until his death. He resided in Northport, Ala. with his wife for the past 35 years. A member of the Church of Christ for 55 years and a former elder, currently he was a member of the Northwood congregation.
A memorial service will be held August 15th at 7 p.m., at Northwood Church of Christ, Northport, Ala.
