Reburial services for Pfc. Benjamin Reiss, age 33, will be held at the Schwartkoff funeral home, Utica, on Saturday at 9:30am and 10:00 at St Lawrence Catholic Church, with the Reverend Father E J De Keyser officiating.


Pfc. Reiss was born in Detroit on April 25, 1911 the son of Anna and the late John Reiss. The family moved from Detroit to Shelby twp in 1918.

For nine years prior to his induction on January 12, 1944, he was employed by the Dodge Truck company of Detroit. After training at Fort Houston, Texas and at Jefferson Barracks, St Louis MO, he was sent overseas in September 1944. He gave his life for his country on December 24, 1944 in Belgium. He was attached to Company A, 741st Battalion, the first army.

He is survived by one son, Benjamin Jr, his mother, Mrs. Anna Pavelek, one brother, Clarence Reiss, and four sisters, Mrs Monica Krause, , Mrs Anna Witkowski, Mrs Agnes Firlick, and Mrs Leona Pavelek.

Mr. Reiss was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Full military honors wil lbe accorded by the Old Settler Post VFW of Disco. Burial will take place in Mt Olivet cemetery.
