Amanda was the daughter of Patrick William Corcoran and Emiline Amanda Alley. She was born on Laurel Hill where her father worked in the cotton mill.

The factory was located on top of a mountain outside of Lawrenceburg. The factory was bought out by a larger cotton factory in Columbia. It is no longer standing. Only a grave yard exists of some of those factory workers and their families. It is a beautiful place to go and visit.

She married Jacob Biffel Staggs on 14 June 1879 in Lawrence County, TN. There were 7 children and 21 grandchildren.

She was born on Laurel Hill in Lawrenceburg, TN where her father and her siblings all worked at the Laurel Hill Cotton Mill. There were 400 families living on the hill. Of that only 80 workers who worked in the mill.

In the 1880 census she was living with her family in Wayne, TN.

In August 1886 mom and dad left Laurel Hill. Somewhere between 1890-1900 Amanda moved her family to join her brother, and her mom and dad who were living in Columbia. Her brother, Patrick "Henry" Corcoran had secured a job in the cotton mills there and asked that the family move together to join him.

In the 1900 census the family lived at District 9, on 24 Carpenter Street in Columbia, Maury County, TN.

"Mandy's" husband was on the Columbia Police force for 20 years when he retired.
