Jim graduated from Academy High School, Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was proud to be a soldier defending our great country. After serving three years in the U.S. Army, Jim returned to Erie and worked on the New York Central Railroad for seven years before losing his leg in a train accident. He then attended Erie Business School and while there was called to work as a clerk for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board where he retired as Manager after 23 years of service. Jim was an avid card player with his specialty being a good Euchre Game.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Phillips Dumanski in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita Kingston Phillips; a daughter, Mary Beth Phillips McMann (Ernie) of Erie; two sons, James Phillips of Wesleyville and Gerard Phillips of Austin, Texas; two brothers, John Phillips (Charlotte) of Cambridge Springs and Paul Phillips (Mary Ann Piscitelli) of Erie; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery with full Military Honors.
