Funeral services for Alvina J. Dirks, 96,were held Friday, Nov. 12,1999 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Anamosa. The Rev. Jerry Egel officiated at the service. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
Alvina J. Dirks died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Alvina J. Kray was born Oct. 16, 1903 at Strawberry Point, the daughter of Henry and Meta Steenblock Kray. She attended school at Castle Grove #5. On Nov. 15, 1922, she was united in marriage with George Henry Dirks at her parents' home at Castle Grove. The couple farmed in Castle Grove and Wayne Townships. Survivors include two daughters, DeLoris Feldman of Monticello, Darlene Moncrief of rural Anamosa; a daughter-in-law, Jennie Dirks of Monticello; one sister, Matilda Schoon of Monticello; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-greatgrandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband on July 9, 1968; one son, Marion; two brothers, John and Henry Kray; two sisters, Margaret Brokens, Freda Ortgies and a great-grandchild, Wendy.
