Casper 'Cap' Goken, 73
ROCHELLE -- Casper 'Cap' Goken, 73, of Rochelle died Friday, April 1, 2005, in Rochelle Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Earlville, the son of Eilert and Agnes Mueller Goken. He married Marilyn C. Schnorr Nov. 7, 1953, in St. James Catholic Church in Lee. Preceded in death by brothers, Herman, Paul and Edward; and nephew, Randy Goken. Cap grew up in the Lee and Shabbona areas and farmed around Steward and Malta. He owned and operated service stations in Loves Park, carpentered for several years and owned and operated the Meadow Mart Car Wash from 1977 to 1983 in Loves Park. He also had a Mobil Home Maintenance service in Rockford and Loves Park. At the time of retiring in 1993, he was the maintenance supervisor with Rochelle Petro. With his carpenter skills, he remodeled the Hub City Senior Center in Rochelle. Prior to his failing health, he managed the Christian Food Pantry in Rochelle. He was a member of St. Patrick Church and Hub City Senior Center, and former member of North Park Volunteer Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad for 10 years. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and wood crafts, and he enjoyed camping. Survivors include wife, Marilyn; son, Michael Goken of Seaside, Calif.; daughters, Lynn Widhalm of McFarland, Wis., LuAnn Marx of Machesney Park and Kathy (Bryan) King of Loves Park; brother, Eilert (Jackie) Goken Jr. of Shabbona; sister, Mary (Vernon) Herrmann of Hinckley; sisters-in-law, Barbara Goken of Sycamore, Nyla Goken of Galena and Mary Goken of Shabbona; grandchildren, Kristina Widhalm, Heather Goken, Paul Goken, Melanie Goken, Randi Marx, Troy King and Cory Younger; and great-grandchildren, Khristian Widhalm and Nathan Ortiz.
Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Peck officiating. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St. Memorials have been established to St. Patrick Catholic Church and Hub City Senior Center. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
