In 1988 Helen was inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York along with her teammates.
Helen dedicated her life to coaching young women, including her 2 daughters. Helen’s coaching career ended in 2010 at the age of 86.
Helen appeared in the movie “A League of Their Own”. On June 16, 1991 Helen auditioned for the movie “A League of Their Own”. The audition was held in Studio-City, California. On September 10, 1991 Helen was informed that scenes for the movie would be filmed in Cooperstown. The movie needed 20 of the 65 Skokie gals to play the game and appear in the Hall scenes. For the movie Helen was paid room and board in Cooperstown and $50 per day.
The “A League of Their Own” was based on the Rockford Peaches. The movie was set in 1943, tells a comic story based on the real-life All-American Girls Baseball League which played in the Midwest in the 40’s and 50’s. Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Madonna and Lori Petty appeared in the movie that was directed by Penny Marshall. Madonna appeared as Mae, “A ballplayer with a sharp tongue and a fast reputation”.
