John Fehners, 70, Died Suddenly Friday
John Henry Fehners passed away suddenly Friday morning, March 28, at his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. from the St. Matthew's Lutheran church, with Rev. H. L. Adix and Rev. Paul Kenyon in charge. Interment was made at Oakwood.
Born in Germany on December 1, 1882, he was the son of John and Lena (Hedden) Fehners. He came to this country and lived in the Monticello community until ten years ago when he retired from his farm and moved to Monticello.
He was married April 23, 1919, to Anna Poppe, by Rev. Willms at the Wayne church.
Surviving are his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Eibo Eiben of Monticello and Mrs. Helena Behnken of Anamosa; two half-sisters, Mrs. Louis Ortgies of Anamosa and Mrs. Gerhard Siebels of Monticello, a half-brother, Herman Schafer of Anamosa, and a stepsister, Mrs. Anna Rieken of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herman and Fred.
Pallbearers were Allen Poppe, Raymond Poppe, Ben Eiben, Ernest Schaefer, Harm Behnken, and Lawrence Siebels.
