Son of Marcus & Matilda (VanDePutte) VanRie, and married Bertha "Bert" Wirth on July 15, 1931 in Atkinson at a double wedding, the other couple being "Bert's" sister, Edna May who wed Raymond Schopp.

Camiel and Bertha were the parents of three children.

"Mell" farmed in Henry County his entire life and since 1948 on a farm just north of Cambridge.
