NOTE: This is verbatim. From census data some of the dates appear to be about 10 years off. John and Laura were married in about 1871, not 1861, and their 13 year old child was about 3 years at time of publication:

"JOHN BONETTI: Hotel keeper, farmer and viniculturist; lives on Upper Stockton Road about 3 miles distant from Sacramento, his post office; owns 120 acres of land. Born in Switzerland in 1832; lived there until 1855 and learned the carpenter's trade. On 31 July 1855 he left the city of New York for California via the Isthmus of Panama; arrived in Sacramento 1 November 1855; followed mining for 2 and 1/2 years near Sonora, at Placerville and in Tuolumne Co.

In 1858 moved to Sacramento and opened a cigar and fruit store; after a business of 3 days his place was burned; he then moved to his present location and followed the dairy business for 4 years, then gave his attention to farming and vine growing; he has 22,000 grapevines comprising 33 varieties planted on 30 acres of land. This hotel is a fine building; in connection with it he runs what is said to be the best saloon in the County outside Sacramento; at his place there can always be found a fine stock of wines, liquors and cigars. Married Miss Laura Ballard in 1861 - that is 1871".

DEATH: Around 1884-1885. Biography of Alexander Goldberg states that he purchased Swiss Station in 1885. Goldberg probably married the widowed Laura (Ballard) Bonetti shortly thereafter.

His parents were Giovanni Bonetti and Domenica Riccoli of Switzerland.
