She was a daughter of John Mills MacKenzie (McKenzie) and Sarah Williams MacKenzie. Her father was a native of Scotland.
Several family trees show her as a daughter of Joseph McKenzie and Sarah D. Love, with her birth as Oct. 21, 1843 in Circleville, Pickaway County, Ohio. Date of death given in several family trees erroneously as Jul. 12, 1921 (same death date as her sister Elizabeth) and place of death as in Iola, Allen Co., Kansas, where her parents are buried.

1865: She was born in Delaware according to the 1880 census, but Pennsylvania according to the 1910-30 censuses.

1884: Marriage to Winfield Scott Nesbit (Nesbitt), Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Per the Allegheny Bar Association tribute, Winfield Scott Nesbit married Evelyn Florence MacKenzie in 1884 after his admission to the bar in 1882.

1910 census: 550 Berkshire Ave, Pittsburgh Ward 19, Allegheny, Pennsylvania (with 2nd husband). Per 1910 Census, Charles & Evelyn Holman were married 5 years, or in 1905.
