Sergeant Alex Martinez was killed in a single vehicle crash near the intersection of FM 490 and FM 1425, southwest of Raymondville, at approximately 2:00 pm.

His Chevy Tahoe patrol vehicle overturned several times and came to rest in a nearby field. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Sergeant Martinez had served with the Willacy County Sheriff's Office for 11 months and had previously served as the chief of the Raymondville Police Department.

Alejandro "Alex" Martinez Sr., 52, entered into eternal glory on Friday, November, 21, 2014 in Raymondville, TX. He was born on February 9, 1962 in Lyford, TX to Felix Martinez and Manuela Rodriguez Martinez.Alex was a Lyford High School graduate. He loved barbequing, being with family, fishing, and was always joking around with everyone.He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Juan Martinez; and sisters, Linda Martinez and Sylvia Hinojosa. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Ann Martinez; sons, Alejandro (Aisha) Martinez Jr. and Jacob Martinez; daughters, Jennifer Martinez (Reynaldo Sanchez), Stephanie Martinez (David Salazar), and Myareoh M. Martinez; brothers, Robert, Lorenzo, Jose, Jesus, Felix Jr., and Ricardo Martinez; sisters, Mary F. Lopez, Maria Elena Cantu, and Isabel Morris; 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 8413 Park Ave., Lyford, TX 78569.A funeral mass to celebrate Alex's life will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.A funeral procession will follow to his final place of rest in the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Chief Uvaldo Zamora, Judge Juan Silva, W.C. Deputy Reserve Tony Trevino, Danny Suarez, Chief Oscar Gutierrez, and Chief Donato Garcia.Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Martinez, Alex Martinez Jr., Robert Martinez Jr., Nicolas Martinez, Deputy David Robles, Deputy Juan Guzman, and Sergeant Juan Maldonado.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home 1157 West Hidalgo Avenue, Raymondville, Texas.
