Major League Baseball Player. The versatile backup infielder was well-traveled, being involved in trades that also included third baseman George Kell, outfielder Minnie Minoso and pitcher Early Wynn. He played for the Boston Red Sox from 1950 until traded with first baseman Walt Dropo, third baseman Johnny Pesky, pitcher Bill Wight and first baseman-outfielder Don Lenhardt on June 3, 1952 to Detroit for Kell, outfielder Hoot Evers, infielder Johnny Lipon and pitcher Dizzy Trout. He was with the Tigers until peddled with outfielder Jim Delsing on May 15, 1956 to the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Harry Byrd, outfielder Bob Kennedy and shortstop Jim Brideweser. Then he and Minoso were dispatched to Cleveland on December 4, 1957 for Wynn and outfielder Al Smith. The Indians swapped him to the Cincinnati Reds on April 23, 1958 for pitcher Bob Kelly. He played 407 games at third base, 178 at second base and 27 at shortstop. The left-handed batter hit .242 lifetime with 67 doubles, 10 triples, 25 homers, 165 runs batted in and 259 runs scored.
