Ann McCarthy 1941-2013

Surrounded by her loving family, Ann Margaret McCarthy, Grand Falls (Portage) NB, passed away peacefully at Edmundston Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the age of 71. She gracefully fought her battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) with dignity. Born in New Denmark on April 15, 1941, she was the beloved daughter of the late Neils and Clara (Fitzpatrick) Christensen.

Ann was well known for her culinary skills; both her customers, when she worked in different food establishments, and her eight sons raved for her cooking! (especially her pastries!) In fact, she was not only good at it, but she also had the "gift of hospitality": finding enjoyment in pleasing others. Furthermore, she was always like a ROCK in all of her life's challenges. She would never give up. It was in 2011 when she was struck with ALS, and although this disease stripped her of her autonomy, Ann remained "true to herself"-always jolly and focused on how she could serve others.

Ann is survived by eight precious sons; Corey (Ursula Kasperczyk), Toronto; Larry (Veronica Rosito), Calgary; Patrick A. (Laurie-Ann Patoine), Quebec City; Troy (Nasrin), Toronto; Todd (Rachel), Perth-Andover; Rodney (Debbie), Grand Falls Portage; Tony, Grand Falls Portage; and Jody, Dubai. She will be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren: Kylee, Dylan, Chelsey, Cassandra, Logan, Brooke, Rosalie, Julia and Kamille. Also surviving are two sisters: Teresa Madore, Anderson Road and Bernadette Eccleston, Plaster Rock, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by several siblings: Mary, Bernard, Peter, James, Francis, Angela, Joseph, Jerome, and John.

Resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 5th at 11 a.m. from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls (Portage) with Father Gilbert Doddatto officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the A.L.S. Society, the Canadian Red Cross Society or the St. Patrick's Church would be appreciated by the family.
