George is the oldest son of George and Louisa (Goddard) Pearce and the only son to live to adulthood. He was born in Hounslow, Middlesex County, England. He came with his parents to America in 1849. They settled in Coffey County in 1858. George served in the Civil War.
George married (first) Phebe "Jane" Smith, they have one son, George "Hampton" 1871-1921. Jane died in 1872. Hampton was raised by his paternal grandparents, George and Louisa. Family Records
The following record of marriage to Sarah Stewart is from Mayree White, County Clerk, Coffey County, Kansas. "He [George J Pearce] married second: Sarah Stewart and had five children: Theo [Thea?], Roy L 1879-1904 (Roy's obit states he died at the home of his father, George J Pearce), Stella, Edith, and Edna." None of these children were mentioned in George's obituary.
He married (last) Katie Hegwald, the widow Ramsdell in 1900, they have two children, George Lamont 1905-bef 1969 and Junia Elizabeth 1913-bef 1991. George's occupation on the 1900 Census was listed as farmer. Family Records
George appears on the 1850, 1860, 1865, and 1870 Censuses with his parents, George and Louisa.
