MAX BAUMGARTNER. Max F. Baumgartner, of 2004 Claussen street, died Saturday night in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr, and Mrs. Fred Pitz, Middle Amana, la., following a heart attack. The body was returned to Davenport for services in the Runge chapel at 1 p. m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery.
Mr Baumgartner was born In Germany Feb. 18, 1870 and came to this country at the age of 12, settling in the Amana colony. He was married there to Marie Schaufuss Jan. 20, 1892. The couple lived in the colony until 1936. On Sept. 5, of the following year Mrs. Baumgartner died. Mr. Baumgartner was a member of the Lutheran church of Amana. Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs. Pitz, Mrs. August Biehl, Davenport, Mrs. Ernest Trumbold, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Otto Krehl, Eldridge; 2 sons, Henry of Amana. and Charles of Davenport; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Alma Haldy, High Amana; and 2 brothers, Fred of High Amana and Carl Baumgartner of Davenport.
