During his WWII service, he was a Panzer Tank Commander with the 21st Panzer Regiment with over 150 enemy tanks destroyed, and received the Knights Cross with Swords.

He surrendered to the American Army on 4-15-1945, and wrote the book "Tigers in the Mud" after the War, and was involved with the Pharmacy Business in Germany.
