She graduated from Cleveland High School, Friendship Junior College and Johnson C. Smith University. She retired from the Cleveland County School System after 39 years of teaching. Elaine joined Hopewell Baptist Church at an early age. After moving to High Point 13 years ago, she joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro. She was a member of several civic clubs and organizations and done extensive travel. She was a woman who always put God first in her life and then her family. One of her favorite sayings was "God Makes No Mistakes" and her favorite bible verse was John 3:16.
Elaine was also preceded in death by her brothers, James, Sanford, Buren and David Cornwell; and one sister, Mary Cornwell Petty.
She leaves, to cherish her legacy of love, son, Jerry (Kim) Mull of High Point; grandson, Jeremy Mull of High Point; one sister, Faye Abernethy of Fort Mill, SC; a special great niece, Vanessa Gentry of Winston Salem; her special care giver, Ruth Dumas of High Point; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Enloe's Mortuary, 231 North Lafayette Street, Shelby.
Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1301 Alamance Church Rd, Greensboro.
Interment will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby.
