Johanna who went by the name of Mary was the third child of Jacob and Dorothy Rosenstiel and the only daughter to survive to adulthood. She and her husband Johann Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Gassmann (married 1839) came to America with the rest of the family in 1842. Their first two children were born in Germany;
1. Charles Gassman, born 1840. He first married Louisa Moeller (Miller). He also married Mary C. Lesseman.
2. Louisa H. Gassmann, born 1841. She married Lewis Edward Breuckner (Brickner).
Their third child was born in Stephenson County, Illinois;
3. Wilhemina Hermina Gassmann. She married Reverend William Biesemeier (Bessemin).
Johanna died just before her daughter Wilhemina's first birthday.
