Among the properties that Thomas owned was 180 acres in Upper Providence, east of the Providence Road bordering Crum Creek. There Thomas built a large two story home where many religious meetings were held. the land that he gave the Quakers for their first burial ground in 1690, Sandy Bank, was located here next to the road. William Taylor lived across the road.
Thomas and his family left the Quaker faith to become Seventh Day Baptists and baptisms began in 1697 on the Powell land at Ridley Creek. Samuel and Richard Miles, grandfather and father of Joan Miles Powell were both baptized here. Later Thomas returned to the Anglican/Episcopal church.
The close deaths of Thomas and his youngest son, Thomas Powell, Jr., who lived in his parents' home with his wife and two infants , caused confusion with their estates.
