Gray Smith Rasnake, age 83, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Rasnake, the daughter of the late Clarence Donald and Georgia Mae Smith, was born at Halls Bottom in Washington County, Virginia, November 15, 1931.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, J. Samuel Rasnake, two siblings, Homer Smith and Jimmy Lee Smith, and devoted friend, Martha Groves.

She is survived by one son, John Samuel Rasnake, II, and his wife Mary, of Bluff City, one daughter, Tondaleah Rasnake Ollis, and her husband Max, of Bristol; four grandchildren, Jordannah Rasnake Peters, and her husband Derek, of Bluff City, Ryan Rasnake, and his wife Lindsey, of Bristol, Ian Ollis, and Meah Ollis, both of Bristol, one great-grandchild, Alanah Mae Peters, of Bluff City; two brothers, J. R. “Bob” Smith and Donald Smith, and one sister, Betty Winter; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rasnake was a minister’s wife, pastoring four churches: Avon Assembly (Avon, North Carolina), South Bristol, Westhighlands Church (both in Bristol, Tennessee), and Franklin Chapel (Blountville, Tennessee). Cooking was her passion, as is realized in her cookbook Scraps and Scratches, Goodies and Batches. She demonstrated her love for others by sharing gifts from her kitchen. This was her ministry

A funeral service for Mrs. Rasnake will be held at 7 pm, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Franklin Chapel, 221 Franklin Dr. Blountville, TN with Rev. J. Douglas Cruey and John Samuel Rasnake, II officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 6:45 P.M., prior to the service at the church.

The committal and entombment will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 13 in the Mountain View Mausoleum in Bristol, VA.

Pallbearers are Elmer Groves, Jr., Scott Mullins, Ian Ollis, Max Ollis, Derek Peters, Roger Rasnake, Ryan Rasnake, and Dean Smith. Honorary Pallbearers and Special Friends include Brock Nash, Dulcie Mumpower, Ed Smith, Dr. Jennifer Skorupa, Dr. David Astin, and the Franklin Chapel family. Memorials may be sent to Franklin Chapel.
