Baptized Johann Steinhauer, 14 Jun 1795, at the Evangelist Church in Lauterecken, Kusel, Pfalz. (Birth date of 24 Jun 1795, calculated from gravestone inscription, probably is in error.) Johann's parents were Johann Adam Steinhauer and Maria Elizabetha Mosser. In 1803, when the Kusel area was under occupation by Napoleon's army, the family moved to Hungary under Count Szapary.

Later, Johann returned to the Kusel area and worked as a wagonmaker in Unterjeckenbach. On 15 Sep 1821, he married Maria Stuber at the Evangelist Church in Herren-Sulzbach, Kusel, Pfalz. Johann and Maria had 7 children in 1820-1827: Johann Phillip, Maria Catharina, Margaret, Maria Elisabetha Juliana Philippina, Johann Peter, Anna Catherina, and Maria Elisabetha. On 14 Apr 1828, Maria (Stuber) Steinhauer died.

On 7 March 1830, Johann married Maria's sister, Margaretha Stuber, in Herren-Sulzbach, after the couple had obtained a church dispensation to marry a close relative. Johann and Margaretha had 7 children in 1830-1843: Peter, Peter Henry, Johann Jacob, Frederich Simon, Anna Catherine, Anna Elisabetha, and William Frederick.

Johann, Margaretha, and their family emigrated to the USA, arriving on 2 July 1849 at New York on the vessel Pieter Floris, and settling in Pike County, Ohio. Some of the family changed their surname spelling to "Steinhour". Johann lived on a farm in Jackson Township, Pike County, until his death on 8 Sep 1865.

In 1894, Jacob Steinhour, a well known Prairie farmer, had the remains of his father taken up from an old burial ground in Jackson township, and removed to his lot in the cemetery at this place. Mr. Steinhour’s father died in 1865, but as he was buried in a grave yard that is unkept, Mr. S. concluded to have the remains removed to his family lot where the grave could be properly cared for, and on last Wednesday Undertaker Jacob Gehres exhumed the body and reentered it in the cemetery at his place.
