John E. Wegener was born in Alexandria Aug. 5, 1885 , the son of Rudolph and Martha Wegener. He grew to manhood in this community and in 1910 he was united in marriage to Ruth Palmer in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Wegener was engaged in the clothing and restaurant business in Alexandria until 1940. Between 1940 and 1957, Mr. and Mrs. Wegener lived in Michigan and Texas, returning to Alexandria in 1957. For the past year, Mr. Wegener operated the Andria Selling Service. Mr. and Mrs. Wegener celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this past February. Mr. Wegener passed away on Thursday, March 5, at the age of 73 years and 7 months.
Mr. Wegener is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Alexandria; one son, Edward of Auburn, Ala., and two daughters, (Betty) Mrs. George Meyers of Amarillo, Texas, and (Jean) Mrs. David Schultz of Irvington-on-Hudson, New York.
