Anna Dechant, 97, Good Samaritan Center, died Saturday, July 27, at St. Anthony Hospital.

She was born Oct. 2, 1887 at Munjor, the daughter of Raymond & Amelia (Befort) Speier.

She married Joseph Dechant on Nov. 7, 1907 at Munjor. He died Oct. 30, 1974.

She was a lifetime resident of Ellis County and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sons, William, Richard and Walter, all of Hays, and Eugene, Wichita; seven daughters, Josephine Legleiter and Stella VonFeldt, both of Hays, Alice Legleiter, Augusta, Marcella Zimmerman and Adeline Zimmerman, both of Wichita, Eleanor King, Denver, Colo., and Mabel Riedel, Walker; two brothers, John Speier, Hays, and Henry Speier, Wichita; one sister, Rosa Pfannenstiel, Denver, Colo.; 36 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Felix Petrovosky officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel. A parish wake will be 8 p.m. Monday, also at the chapel.

A memorial has been established with St. Joseph Catholic School.
